*Community Support Program: Trainings on Waste Management
As part of the Community Support Program funded by USAID and implemented by Chemonics, the Chair of “Fondation Diane” CEEDD implemented a training program targeting the municipality of Makse and 19 municipalities of the Koura area in order to raise the citizens’ awareness on the importance of sorting waste at its source, as well as the environmental and health impacts associated with waste pollution. Following the training, each municipality will implement one awareness campaign coached by the Chair thus reaching the community and raising awareness on a larger scale.
Under this scope, the project manager and the CEEDD team conducted 20 inception meetings in all of the targeted municipalities to introduce them to the project and the support CSP will be providing. Also, during those meetings, the needs and concerns of the municipalities were assessed and will be implemented in the trainings. After the meeting, each municipality communicated the names of volunteers who undertook the trainings that started in September 2022.
*Training on the Management of Liquid & Solid Waste from Olive Pressing
Within the framework of Task Order 3, “Technical Assistance Services for Lebanese Organizations” of the Lebanon Community Support Program (CSP) financed by USAID, the Chair of “Fondation Diane” CEEDD worked on a project within the “Environmental Compliance” component which aims to strengthen the capacity of a COOP in Akkar in order to treat liquid and solid waste from the olive, while respecting the environment. The project is implemented through the organization of training sessions, the production of guidelines, as well as on-the-job training (On the Job Training OJT). As part of this component of the program, a training was conducted on August 27, 2020, by Dr Jean el-Achkar, in Akkar, with 8 members of the “Cooperative for the production and processing of Olives in Akroum”. The modules of the training are:
- Conceptual change to promote behavioral changes among participants, with emphasis on sustainable waste management technologies.
- Training on the identification of different waste treatment technologies applied nationally and internationally.
- Training on the identification of the different ways of recovering the waste produced and in the selection of the most suitable ecological waste treatment techniques.
This training made it possible to strengthen the skills of the participants on the ecological means of processing solid and liquid waste from olives.
